I believe the time has now arrived to call time on the pgl forum. There are other more accessible and user friendly means to put across thoughts and ideas. Our game is changing quite fast and so is our means of communicating . So here's to progress, and a more modern, acceptable means of relaying info to the masses. Clearly the watts app messages that very quickly relayed the outcomes and congratulations in the IBA cups is the direction to look . I know it was set up for results only , but a failure to police that, has opened up a new avenue that bowlers are comfortable using. Come on committee keep up to pace , even an old fart like myself can see what folk are looking .

Facebook would be the next possible avenue to explore As any potential alternatives need a certain amount of monitoring and management the issue as ever would be time and people to pitch in and help out - all to much a familiar story
This season has been possibly the best for some years with a few twists and turns still to come - sky sports would have a field day with all the excitement?
Still a lot of changes required to reboot the game and letβs all hope the fantastic start this year of the regional academies continues. The age group missing and needs targeting is the 35-60 - who maybe considered the Facebook generation

This forum should still be here. It's a tool as is Facebook, fb live, Instagram, YouTube, twitter, cliq, Kik, WhatsApp, periscope, wechat, discord, twitch etc, etc...
So many platforms to choose from. Or can you choose... Probably need to use them all tbh! But who's gonna do it. One person... Two? 22?
All of these require coordination, confidence and competence.
I suppose a group of 7/8 is probably is about the right number to manage all these social media.
But it usually gets left to 1/2 & then ppl start complaining. Running a fb page single handed isn't easy. A twitter account and I think periscope also you don't have much choice and only one person can manage it unless you give out the password YouTube kinda looks after itself Most of these require time and effort.

Personally I think 2 mediums are plenty ie this forum and facebook. Too many increases the potential for mis-information. The NIPGL website provides access to the Rules, Panels, Fixtures etc and this forum. Facebook gives the opportunity for photos, events and a bit of, dare I say it, whinging. The guys who look after the updating of results deserve plaudits for their efforts and Thank you.

Photos and congratulation, maybe have some fun yes... Whinging a bit less of.. The likes of fb and twitter should be a shop window to the game encouraging people to take it up.
Leave the gurning to here π

To everyone who has commented I have advocated facebook at meetings as in my opinion it is reaches more people and as Damien says it can be a very useful tool to promote our game. I also think it is a bit more user friendly, sometimes I feel that everything that goes on the website is then being replicated for the forum; so does the forum really serve a purpose. I agree with Damien that it can be problematic to get enough people to administer any site regardless of the format and yes any of them are always open to abuse. Of course facebook will mean anyone posting will do so under his or her own name and we do have policies in place for social networking sites. I for one would be happy to have a facebook page. Something that the GP committee will have to discuss further.

If you consider how many clubs use Facebook very well. it seems a good route to go down
I cannot see there being many unruly customers and it would create a lot of positive noise for the game.
Mark Has there been much discussion by the GP towards new ideas to give the game a much needed boost? It would almost need a separate task team to drive new initiatives or reinvent old ones. The amount of people I speak to who say they would like to give the game ago - yet donβt as they think itβs a retirement sport is staggering.
The idea of having bowls equivalent to the cross bar challenge may demonstrate - mixed age groups - internationals etc - men and women - the idea is to video it and have people running at the jack say a foot from The ditch

I cannot see there being many unruly customers and it would create a lot of positive noise for the game. Only takes one header to ruin the fun. If managed correctly... I agree the rewards outweight the cons. It's a feature rich platform that most of us know about and have experienced. Now..... Everyone who wants to be an admin... Put your hands up!! Don't all shout at once!! ππ
